Finishing on 110

I was watching the Colin Lloyd versus Beau Anderson PDC World championship match when Colin Lloyd finsihed on 110 in an unusual way. The normal way might be triple 20 and either single 18 double 16 or single 10 double 20. If you miss the triple 20 and hit a single 20 to leave 90 then it might be triple 18 and double 18. Colin hit a triple 15 and single 15 to leave 50. Then on the last dart hit the bull. I think he was trying for two triple 15's to score 90 and leave double 10 with the last dart. There is a safety for the shot when you only hit one triple 15. Still not as good as hitting a triple, single and double. Hitting a single, triple and bull is a slightly less of a percentage way but worth considering if you like triple 15, the bull or double 10 .

Soft Tip Dart Machines In NZ

Recently I was in Downtown Auckland in an Asian Foodcourt and picked up a chinese language magazine with this advertisement. It looks like soft tip dart machines have finally arrived in NZ. This bar has 6 boards and charges $1 for 10 games.

Mike Day Invited to play in World Trophy Tournament In England

Mike Day flys to England on the 28 December to play in the BDO World professional Darts championships at the Lakeside. He is the first NZ representative to compete for quite a number of years. He has also received an invitation to play in the World Trophy tournament which takes place in England in 2014.

Last night a fundraiser for Mike was held at the west City Darts association club rooms, 103 Glen road, Ranui. 70 players turned up and competed in a drawn pairs won by Mike Radford and Emma Heavey who played Peggy Wikaira and Mike Mcleod in the final.

$1010 was raised for Mike to assist him on his travels.

145 Left

I was watching the PDC World Darts championships yesterday and enjoying it. Especially the efforts of Rob Szabo against Ian Moss and Phil Taylor. Probably one of the best efforts of a NZ player at the PDC ever.

In the game John Part versus Mareno Marcels John in one leg was left on tops to finish and Mareno had 145 left and was to throw. He threw at triple 20 missed and hit a single 20 to leave 125. With two darts left he could not finish but only set to leave a double. This was where I thought he was quite clever and did something I would not have thought of but on reflection makes sense. Where I would have with the second dart tried to hit treble 20 to leave 65 and with the last dart thrown a single 25 to leave tops he did the reverse and hit the 25 with the second dart and triple 20 with the last to leave tops. I can see his thinking if you throw for the 25 on the last dart you give yourself the chance of hitting 50 and being left on 15. Doing it his way and throwing for 25 with the second dart if you hit the 50 you leave 75 but still have one dart to fix it going for triple 17 to leave double 12.

Sometimes these small differences in counting strategy are the ones that make a difference as to who wins the leg or even match,

VERN'S FUNERAL

Vern works hard at the Phone Company but spends
Two nights each week bowling, and plays golf every
Saturday.

His wife thinks he's pushing himself too hard,

So for his birthday she takes him to a local
Strip club.

The doorman at the club greets them and says,
"Hey, Vern! How ya doin?"
His wife is puzzled and asks if he's been to
This club before.
"Oh no," says Vern.
"He's in my bowling league ."

When they are seated, a waitress asks Vern

If he'd like his usual and brings over a Budweiser.

His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable
And says, "How did she know that you drink Budweiser?"

"I recognize her, she's the waitress from the golf club.
I always have a Bud at the end of the 1st nine, honey."

A stripper then comes over to their table, throws her

Arms around Vern, starts to rub herself all
Over him and says...
"Hi Vern. Want your usual table dance, big boy?"
Vern's wife, now furious,
Grabs her purse and
Storms out of the club.
Vern follows and spots her getting into a cab.
Before she can slam the door, he jumps in

Beside her.

Vern tries desperately to explain how the stripper
Must have mistaken him for someone else,
But his wife is having none of it

She is screaming at him at the top of her lungs,

Calling him every 4 letter word in the book...

The cabby turns around and says,
'Geez Vern, you picked up a real bitch this time.'

VERN'S  FUNERAL WILL BE HELD
THIS COMING FRIDAY.
